Most yards look pretty rough coming out of winter. Overgrown shrubs, faded mulch, and pavers that have shifted over time - it all adds up fast. That's exactly what we were working with here, and we handled it from front to back.
We started with the beds. Fresh black mulch went down across all the foundation plantings, and you can see how sharp the contrast looks against the brick and the trimmed shrubs. Black mulch does a lot of heavy lifting - it makes every plant pop and gives the whole bed a clean, finished look that holds up well into the season. We covered every bed on the property, not just the ones visible from the street.
The bushes got shaped up too. Some of the larger shrubs near the front entry had gotten pretty full and uneven. We trimmed them back to a tight, rounded form that fits the house. Good bush trimming isn't just about cutting - it's knowing how much to take and where. Cut too much and you stress the plant. Cut too little and nothing looks different in a week.
Out back, we reset the sunken pavers on the walkway. That kind of settling is normal over time, but it's a safety issue and it looks sloppy. Pulling the pavers, re-leveling the base, and resetting them flat is straightforward work if you know what you're doing - and when it's done right, you can't even tell anything was ever off.
The whole property ended up looking sharp and well-kept. Clean beds, shaped shrubs, fresh mulch, and a walkway that's solid underfoot again. That's what a thorough spring cleanup should deliver.
